Beachhead Solutions Ships Version 1.0 of Lost Data Destruction Software

SAN FRANCISCO, RSA Booth #234, Feb. 15, 2005 - - Beachhead Solutions Inc., the pioneer in information security through data elimination, today announced the release of Lost Data Destruction version 1.0. The security solution automatically destroys specified data on lost or stolen laptop and desktop computers to prevent its compromise or misuse. Unlike most other data security products, this software-based solution does not depend on user compliance or involvement and is particularly crucial for banks, insurance companies, medical institutions and other government and business entities that are custodians of confidential data.

The release of version 1.0 follows several successful enterprise pilots that proved the effectiveness and ease of use for banks and professional services firms needing to protect sensitive client data. Lost Data Destruction (LDD) uses preset behavior-based triggers to recognize when a device has been lost or stolen, and then destroys designated files, file types, folders or encryption tags. LDD will eliminate sensitive data even if an unauthorized user never logs on to the Internet.

LDD protects important information when other security solutions fail due to common user behavior such as:

  • Password or token left with stolen computer
  • Computer left on or in standby when stolen
  • Data not eliminated from contractor’s computer after engagement

Recent legislative acts such as California SB 1386, HIPAA, Graham-Leach-Bliley, Sarbanes-Oxley and FISMA include measures that compel organizations to publicly notify customers when data has been lost.

A pilot test was recently concluded with Mohler, Nixon & Williams, one of the 100 largest public accounting firms in America, using a beta version of LDD. The software is now installed on accountants' computers.

“We’ve had concerns about the possibility that some of our laptops could be lost or stolen, and needed a better way than just passwords and encryption to protect our clients’ data from compromise,” said Clare Piech, Chief Operations Officer at the firm. “But the last thing I wanted to do was put our employees through a training course just to learn how to use new security software. We were able to implement the Lost Data Destruction client with no loss of user productivity, no user training, and very little added IT burden.”

“With increasingly stringent data compliance requirements and more than 1.5 million laptops stolen in 2004 alone, companies have too much to lose to simply rely on users to keep critical data safe and secure,” said Jim Obot, President and CEO, Beachhead Solutions. “Lost Data Destruction completes the security chain broken by non-compliant user behavior, and protects enterprises from legal liability, reputation damage and financial losses.”

Lost Data Destruction can be hosted on the enterprise servers or on a Beachhead remote server and is backed by online or telephone technical support. LDD works on end-user systems running Windows 2000 or XP Professional.
